STURTEVANT, WI — Foxconn executives and state officials opened a renovated and expanded advanced manufacturing center at a southeastern Wisconsin technical college.
The project added nearly 36,000 square feet to the SC Johnson iMET Center at Gateway Technical College, as well as remodeled another 12,000 square feet.
The facility in Sturtevant, Wisconsin, houses 12 programs with technologically advanced classrooms and equipment. Some of the facility’s equipment can also be easily moved off-campus for training at nearby high schools and manufacturers.
College officials said numerous national companies provided equipment and expertise to develop a “local, and national, site of Industry 4.0 training.”
“This expansion is not only great for the Racine County area, but it is great for Wisconsin’s manufacturing industry,” Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers said during the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Richard Vincent, the chief business officer of Foxconn Industrial Internet, said the facility would provide industry with a workforce prepared for data analytics, high-performance computers, and other emerging technologies. Foxconn is building a manufacturing facility in nearby Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin.
“It’s home to inventive education, giving faculty a place to create and develop new curriculum, and establishes a new paradigm of teaching innovation focused on hands-on experience,” says Vincent.
