SELMER, TN—Source: GE Appliances Invests $34M to Expand U.S. Refrigerator Manufacturing
In August 2023, GE Appliances, a Haier company, announced a $34 million investment to expand refrigeration manufacturing and create 150 new jobs at its wholly-owned subsidiary, Monogram Refrigeration, in Selmer, Tennessee.
The investment will increase the size of the plant and add new fabrication equipment and an assembly line to build Monogram and Café brand integrated bottom-freezer refrigerators. The expansion will double the capacity of Building Two, located at 1020 Tennessee Avenue in Selmer and the workforce. The new jobs will make Monogram the largest industrial employer in McNairy County. According to the company, the new space and assembly line will help GE Appliances grow its premium appliance offerings. Construction will begin immediately, and the new production will begin in the third quarter of 2025.

Last year, GE Appliances and freight mobility technology company Einride successfully completed a pilot that used Einride’s heavy-duty, autonomous, electric vehicle on public roads to move finished goods from the Monogram Refrigeration plant to a nearby warehouse. This effort was the first U.S. approval for operations of this new type of vehicle from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Monogram has operated in the area since 1986. According to the company, GE Appliances and its wholly owned subsidiaries in Tennessee employ more than 1,150 employees, which contributes more than $500 million to the state’s GDP. The company purchases more than $385 million annually from 320 Tennessee suppliers.
Nationally, GE Appliances spends $4.9 billion with 6,300 U.S. suppliers, a 293% increase in spending and a 233% increase in suppliers since 2016.
