MARANELLO, Italy—Ferrari and Philip Morris International (PMI) recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of their strategic partnership, which has primarily focused on sponsorship of the automaker’s famous Formula 1 racing team. Now, the two companies are turning their attention to sustainability.
Ferrari E-Lab, in collaboration with PMI, will explore new energy-related technologies that could support the decarbonization journey of their respective production facilities, which are located 30 kilometers apart in Italy’s Emilia Romagna Region.
“The partnership aims to assess key solutions contributing to industrial electrification in the generation, storage and transformation of renewable energy,” says Benedetto Vigna, CEO of Ferrari. “The first study will explore the viability of long-duration energy storage technologies and should be completed by [the end of this year].
“Ferrari and PMI share a desire to evolve their work together in a spirit of open innovation,” explains Vigna. ”Our companies will collaborate to research new technology solutions to develop and optimize the use of energy in our industrial processes.
