Solar Module Assembly Plant Coming to North Carolina
GREENVILLE, NC—Vietnamese solar manufacturer Boviet Solar will invest $294 million to build its first North American assembly plant here.
The plant will be able to produce 2 gigawatts of solar modules annually, as well as 2 gigawatts of solar cells annually. The plant will produce Boviet’s range of tunnel oxide passivated contact n-type cells, for use in monofacial and bifacial solar panels, which can be deployed at both utility-scale and distributed operations.
“Through ‘made in America’ products, we are confident in our ability to deliver superior experiences and remain responsive to the diverse needs of our clients,” said Sienna Cen, president of Boviet Solar USA.
The project comes at a time when the U.S. is looking to incentivize domestic manufacture of renewable power products through the Inflation Reduction Act. Boviet’s U.S. facility will be the company’s second factory, alongside a facility in Vietnam. The new plant is expected to begin commercial operations of the North Carolina plant in the first quarter of 2025.
North Carolina is among the leading states for solar deployment in the U.S., with 9.3 gigawatts of installed capacity at the end of 2023, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association,
