NORTHBROOK, IL—UL Solutions Inc. recently opened a battery research facility in Auburn Hills, MI. The North America Advanced Battery Laboratory is designed to help automakers and suppliers improve the safety and reliability of their energy storage products.

The 89,000-square-foot facility houses state-of-the-art battery test equipment designed to enable safe testing for automotive manufacturers and their suppliers. The facility’s portfolio of tests is one of the most extensive in the industry, including thermal fire propagation, electrical, mechanical abuse and environmental testing based on various UL and International Electrotechnical Commission standards, United Nations climate goals and initiatives, and Society of Automotive Engineers and OEM specifications.
The UL Solutions North America Advanced Battery Laboratory complements other facilities, such as the Electric Vehicle Battery Fire Testing Laboratory in Northbrook, IL, and EV Charging Test Laboratories in Fremont, CA, and Frankfurt, Germany.
